The activities of the “Memory of the World” National Committee of Uzbekistan in 2015 were focused through open solutions and supporting the digital preservation of documentary heritage.
Within nation-wide partnership programs MOW National Committee co-organized three capacity building national seminars: “Preservation and Accessibility of Documentary Heritage in Uzbekistan” (Navoi National Library of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, 16-20 March 2015), “Open Education Resources in the Libraries of Uzbekistan” (Uzbekistan National University, Tashkent on 22-25 June 2015) and “Inventory of the Documentary Heritage” (Navoi National Library of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, 15-17 September 2015). In total 100 participants (library and archive specialists) were benefited from the training courses. Training manual on “Preservation and Restoration Methodology of Rare Manuscripts” (in Uzbek and Russian languages) and catalogue “Collection of Rare Books of the National Library of Uzbekistan” were published within activities. The training contributed to the increasing awareness of the significance of documentary heritage, OER as well as MOW Programme, provided an opportunity for sharing the opinions and expertise among libraries, archives, universities and museums of Uzbekistan. Central issue addressed within the training was the role of cultural and educational institutions as well NGO’s in protecting, conserving and providing free access to the documentary heritage of the humanity and promote OER.
