MOW WORKSHOP IN SINGAPORE
The first MOW workshop in Singapore was held on 21 April in the Oldham Theatre, National Archives of Singapore, which hosted the event coordinated by staff member Ms Lu Wenshi. Following some opening remarks by National Archives Director Mr Eric Chin, the workshop was led by Ms Joie Springer (Member of the IAC Register Subcommittee) and Dr Ray Edmondson (MOWCAP Special Advisor). It was attended by over 30 representatives of Singapore institutions, including the National Heritage Board, the National Library, the National Parks Board, the Asian Civilisations Museum and the Singapore Heritage Society.
Joie and Ray gave an overview of the MOW programme and MOWCAP, explained the process of nominating to a MOW register, and presented several case studies of successful nominations. Executive Director of the Asian Film Archive, Karen Chan, presented the case study of Singapore’s first inscription on the Asia Pacific Register: the Cathay-Keris Studio film collection (added in 2014). This was followed by discussion on potential nominations of documentary heritage. The workshop day concluded with a presentation on how to set up a national MOW Committee, followed by a general Q & A session.
Participant discussion during the workshop and the coffee/lunch breaks was lively and we look forward to further news from Singapore in the months ahead!
