MOW Seminar a First for Taiwan
Taiwan held its first seminar on the Memory of the World Programme on 6-7 October 2014. There were local and international panelists. The international Memory of the World experts who spoke included Dr Roslyn Russell (Australia), Dato’ Habibah Zon Yahaya (Malaysia), Dr Helen Ieong (Macau,SAR) and Mr Aso Tatsuo (Japan).
Seminar on Strengthening National Identities through UNESCO Inscribed Documentary Heritage” in Da Lat, Lam Dong, Vietnam on 11 November 2014.
The State Records and Archives Department of Vietnam acting as the standing agency for the National Committee for MOW in Vietnam will hold a seminar on “Strengthening National Identities through UNESCO Inscribed Documentary Heritage”. The seminar will focus on how to utilize the potential of documentary heritage in promoting the understanding of the culture and social life of a nation.
Memory of the World Workshop in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
A Memory of the World workshop was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, from 17 to 20 September. The workshop was organised by the Korean National Commission for UNESCO and co-hosted by the UNESCO National Commission of the Kyrgz Republic and the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea. Participants worked on submissions including a palm-leaf collection of folk literature, a genealogy in a dead language, a traveller’s diary from the 11th century and administrative records from the 1920s. News Update from Vietnam – August 2014
A ceremony was held to celebrate the inscription of the “Imperial Records of Nguyen Dynasty” on the MOWCAP register. Vietnam is also hosting a seminar to be held in Da Lat in November on “Strengthening National Identities through UNESCO Inscribed Documentary Heritage”.
Sixteen New Inscriptions on the MOWCAP Register
At the MOWCAP 6th General Meeting held in Guangzhou, China, in June 2014, 16 inscriptions were added to the register. This was a record number of inscriptions and demonstrates an increasing recognition for the Memory of the World Programme.
International Workshop-Seminar, Hanoi, Vietnam: 8 January 2013
The State Records and Archives Department of Viet Nam organized the International Workshop-Seminar Sharing Experience on Participating in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Program.
The International Workshop-Seminar brought together nearly one hundred participants from the archives, libraries, museums and institutions of Viet Nam, including the custodians of documentary heritage inscribed on MOW registers.

UNESCO/ Jikji Prize 2011 – National Archives of Australia
The National Archives of Australia (NAA) have been awarded the 2011 UNESCO/ Jikji Memory of the World Prize for its significant contributions to the preservation and accessibility of documentary heritage. UNESCO/Jikji Prize 2013 Awarded to ADABI
The UNESCO/ Jikji Memory of the World Prize, funded by the Republic of Korea was awarded to ADABI (Apoyo al Desarrollo de Archivos y Bibliotecas), a Mexican non-profit association, in recognition of its innovative approach to conservation, digitization and accessibility of archives, as well as its education and training programmes.
