- Signing of the MOU
Mr. Li Minghua, Chairman of MOWCAP signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the UNESCO Memory of the World Committee for Asia and the Pacific (MOWCAP) and the Asia Culture Center of the Republic of Korea (ACC) on Cooperation Concerning the Memory of the World (MOW) Programme in Asia and the Pacific with Mr. Bang Sun-gyu, President of ACC in Beijing on 9th December 2015.
The MOU aims to lay down a framework of cooperation for both parties to promote protection, preservation, awareness, universal access to the use of the documentary heritage in Asia and the Pacific by supporting and strengthening the MOW Programme in Asia and Pacific.
According to the MOU , MOWCAP and ACC will establish a MOWCAP center, which will be to facilitate the work of MOWCAP. A working group, composed of members representing the MOWCAP Bureau and ACC will be established to elaborate the program of cooperation between the parties in furtherance of the objectives of the MOU.
Both parties also agree to support and facilitate the implementation of the UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Preservation of, and Access to Documentary Heritage, including in Digital Form.
Mr. Li Minghua, Chairman of MOWCAP expressed his gratitude to Mr. Bang for his commitment to support the activities of MOWCAP. He believed that the establishment of the MOWCAP center will help to realize the full value of this organization and surely help raise the awareness of the importance of MOW program, and to promote the preservation and access of documentary heritage in Asia and the Pacific.
Mr. Bang thanked Mr. Li Minghua and MOWCAP bureau to give endorsement for the establishment of the MOWCAP center, and promised that the Center, which will serve as the secretariat of MOWCAP , will work closely with the Chairman and the Secretary General to promote the development of MOWCAP with joint efforts. Mr. Bang also expressed his hope that pragmatic programmes could be developed and implemented between MOWCAP and ACC under the MOU in the future. The MOWCAP center is expected to officially open in the first half of 2016.
